The NHS Health Check is to assess your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes. If there are any warning signs, then together we can do something about it. By taking early action, you can improve your health and prevent the onset of these conditions.
The check should take about 20-30 minutes and is based on straightforward questions for example, lifestyle such as physical activity, smoking status, alcohol consumption, diet and measurements, height, weight and blood pressure. There will also be a simple blood test to measure your cholesterol, liver function, kidney function, full blood count and average blood sugar level.
Once booked with our surgery, please arrive 10 minutes before your appointment to check your height, weight and blood pressure on the machine in the waiting room and give the receipt to the health care assistant in your appointment.
Following your initial health check, the health care assistant will book you for a second face to face or telephone appointment to discuss your results and how we can support you to reduce your risk and stay healthy.
